Maritz Hosts Total Solar Eclipse Watch Party
August 22, 2017
It was a day of memories and fascination. A day to witness a once-in-a-lifetime event. A day our people took a break from meetings, projects and programs – if just for a couple hours – to celebrate. It was the day of the Great American Total Solar Eclipse.
On Monday, August 21, Maritz employees and retirees, joined together for the Maritz Total Solar Eclipse watch party. Our headquarters location in Fenton was lucky enough to be in the path of totality, and we witnessed one of nature’s most awe-inspiring sights – a total solar eclipse.
In our traditional Maritz “work hard, have fun, and get-the-job-done style,” we celebrated this rare occurrence! Our people enjoyed a viewing party indulging in an “eclipse” themed lunch featuring Sun Chips, Moon Pies, and even Blue Moon beer while taking in the musical stylings of “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” “A Sky Full of Stars,” and “Blinded by the Light.”
“As a people-centered company, we find it important to walk our talk, and that means treating our employees to special, once-in-a-lifetime events such as this one. It’s just one way we celebrate our people’s commitment toward our clients, our community and Maritz’ success,” said Jennifer Larsen, senior director of brand and reputation.
As the countdown to totality began around 1:16 p.m., the crowd “oohed” and “aahed” as the sky got dark and the crickets started chirping. For the one minute and 55 seconds of totality the crowd went silent as they looked at this astrological phenomenon. The crowd cheered and clapped as totality passed, and we reveled in the once-in-a-lifetime event we just witnessed.
“I feel so lucky to work for a company that celebrates events such as this once-in-a-lifetime eclipse,” said Megan Grace, Maritz communications specialist. “It was so great to be able to walk outside, enjoy a themed lunch, watch the eclipse, and share the moment with my co-workers. Maritz truly is a great place to work!”
