The Maritz Institute’s Mary Beth McEuen Calls for Change in Business Stakeholder Engagement

McEuen Presents Keynote Speech at NRECA CEO Close-Up Event

ST. LOUIS, MO (Jan. 7, 2014) In the new economy, Americans are demanding more from businesses and business leaders, and CEOs must adapt to this paradigm shift, according to Mary Beth McEuen vice president and executive director of The Maritz Institute.  McEuen says people want to work for and do business with companies that share their values and connect with them on their own terms.  She will address these issues during her key-note presentation “The Game Has Changed: A New Paradigm for Stakeholder Engagement” at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) CEO Close-Up conference held in Palm Desert, Calif., Jan. 14, 2014.

“Leaders of organizations are faced with the need to reframe their role from one of managing a hierarchy to leading a community of stakeholders,” McEuen said. “From this core competence, people-centered business practices and programs can be developed where the end result is highly-engaged stakeholders who are as invested in your organization as you are.”

McEuen’s presentation will help NRECA CEO Close-Up participants:

  • Understand the profound shift in values that has been accelerated by the Great Recession – and the implications for organizations.
  • Hear how effective business strategy in today’s “new normal” must begin with a deeper understanding of people.
  • Hear how the latest discoveries from the human sciences are causing leaders to rethink how to engage people individually and as part of connected networks.
  • Gain insight into the people-centered strategies being used by exemplar organizations to create highly-engaged stakeholders.

Participants will leave the session with an understanding of what motivates people along with practical strategies to bring back to their organization.

The NRECA CEO Close-Up conference is a summit for several hundred electric cooperative CEOs/general managers, to examine the latest industry trends and issues that impact a co-op’s business and strategic operations. The event will be held Jan. 12-14 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort in Palm Desert, California.
