Maritz and St. Louis Children’s Hospital Spread Holiday Cheer at Annual Lighting Event

December 15, 2016

With the flip of a switch, Maritz kicked off the holiday season at our 14th annual holiday lighting event. This time-honored tradition brings together our employees, their families and friends to enjoy a visit with Santa, taste cookies and cocoa, and "ooh" and "ahh" as thousands of lights shine brightly across our campus.

As much as we love spreading holiday cheer with our light display, we know the holidays are about more than just twinkle lights, candy canes and hot cocoa. During this event, we celebrate and thank our community partners, and specifically honor our continued partnership with St. Louis Children’s Hospital, one of the premier children's hospitals in the United States.

In 2005, we established the Maritz Endowment Fund for Children’s Education, which allows St. Louis Children’s Hospital to provide resources to help children continue their education while they are undergoing treatment at their facility. During the event, we presented Children’s with a $15,000 check toward continued support of the fund.

The most exciting part of the evening, however, began after the checks were handed out. Each year, we welcome a Maritz family who has received services from St. Louis Children’s Hospital to help "flip the switch" and light up Maritz’ campus. This year, we welcomed Shea and Gabriella Berry, daughters of Mark Berry with MaritzCX, who spent time in the NICU after being born six weeks early due to Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome.

"Although our time in the NICU was short, we experienced first-hand the top notch services and facilities of Children’s," Mark shared. "It was our home away from home for a time, and we are forever grateful for the care and support that Children’s provided to our family."

We thank Mark and his wife, and their twins Shea and Gabriella for leading the countdown and flipping the switch. We thank St. Louis Children’s Hospital for being a valued partner and life-saving contributor to the St. Louis community.

We wish everyone a happy holiday!
