Maritz Hosts Career Exploration Day for Local High School Students

June 17, 2016

Maritz prides itself on giving both our time and expertise in addition to financial dollars to local education-based organizations. This was showcased recently when high school students from College Bound were on the Maritz Fenton campus for a job shadow day. College Bound is an organization that provides promising students from under-resourced backgrounds with the academic enrichment, social support and life skills needed to succeed in colleges and careers.

College Bound has been a Maritz philanthropic partner for several years, and as part of that partnership we are proud to host local high school students. These students spend the day meeting with Maritz employees, learning about our businesses and completing hands-on activities, all in an effort to expose them to future career opportunities.

Penina Nikundana, a College Bound student, was so excited to participate this experience because it allowed her opportunities that she may not have otherwise had.

“Thank you so much for taking your time to educate me about Maritz. As a student growing up with parents that only went to school for five years, I am grateful for the experience. I really appreciate the time and effort you guys took to be with us. You have opened doors for us and given us ideas of what we could be.”

Kelly Greeninger, a Maritz Travel Company employee, was equally as appreciative of being involved in the day. “I loved being a part of the College Bound job shadow day. Being with the students helped me see a small part of our future with these smart students, and if I made even a small impact in their lives, it was a success. Being a part of this day truly made me feel like I was living out the Maritz values. It’s what Maritz is all about, our present and our future.”
