Case Study: A Global Pharmaceutical Company

Meeting consolidation results in big savings for client.

Meeting consolidation results in big savings for client.

Situation

This pharmaceutical client was concerned about the rising costs of the meetings and events programs used to educate physicians. Over time they had developed relationships with multiple vendors and the process of delivering the programs had become costly and inefficient. In particular they felt that having medical education companies handle their meeting logistics was too expensive. They wanted to reduce the costs and the number of vendors, while providing the best in class service to physicians.

Solution

The challenge was to find a more efficient way to meet with the client’s 10,000 physicians located throughout the United States. Maritz developed and implemented an unbundling strategy so that logistics suppliers were providing logistics service - and medical education companies were supplying the content. In addition they developed a process to help the client capture meeting spend so they could assess the savings that the new process was delivering.

Results

  • While the number of meetings in the program increased by 74 percent, the new program resulted in 12 percent savings in the first full year.
  • Maritz issued over 7,000 physicians air tickets with an 11 percent savings over previous costs. Maritz designed and launched an identity center which acts as a reference guide for internal stakeholders.
  • Maritz gained 100 percent Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) compliance in training third-party planning companies and Medical Educators.
