Maritz Joins Red Cross Ready Rating Program
Maritz is now a full-fledged member of the Red Cross Ready Rating Program by scoring a 43 out of a possible 65 points on the Ready Rating Assessment. Designed to help businesses, organizations, and schools prepare for emergencies, the Ready Rating Program recognizes its members for their commitment to preparedness. This designation allows Maritz, a key stakeholder in community support for Fenton and the St. Louis area, to take a proactive stance in supporting the community during emergency situations.
“This distinction sets the bar for other employers in the area to take on responsibility to support the community in times of need. We are very proud of our company dedication to the community and our people are proud to be part of that culture at Maritz.”

Missouri Botanical Garden’s “Earthways – Living the Green Life”
Maritz worked with the Missouri Botanical Garden to raise awareness about ways to make your home more green. Founded in 1859, the Missouri Botanical Garden is the oldest botanical garden in America in continuous operation.
A team at Maritz worked with the Garden to put together “Earth Ways – Living the Green Life,” a display of the future of in-home green technology. The interactive display featured animated characters of Dirt, Water, Air, Sun, and Tree. These characters presented basic information about the environment, as well as various ways to improve sustainability in the house, from composting, to solar panels, to using countertops made from recycled products.
The “Earth Ways” exhibit was scheduled to be on display until Halloween 2009, but due to its overwhelming success, will be displayed through March 14, 2010.

2009 Start! Heart Walk for the American Heart Association
Maritz proudly supports the American Heart Association, a national voluntary health agency whose main focus is the prevention and treatment of heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. In addition, for promoting physical activity and health in the workplace, the American Heart Association's 2009 Start! Fit-Friendly Companies Program awarded Maritz with a Gold Level Award.
In 2009, Maritz employees and their families gathered at Busch Stadium on May 2 to support the American Heart Association’s 2009 Start! Heart Walk. Company participants were easy to spot at the stadium in their “Maritz-Blue” heart hats.
At this year’s Heart Walk, Maritz employees raised $63,000 to help combat this disease that takes 870,000 American lives each year.
“The event represented a great opportunity for Maritz to promote health and wellness throughout the company, support the efforts of Steve, and raise funds to combat what we learned was the most important health issue among Maritz people and their families - heart disease.”

ALS Association Retail Pinup Program
In 2008, Maritz worked with the ALS Association to help improve the effectiveness of its retail pinup program. This program encourages customers at various retailers around the country to contribute by purchasing a paper pinup to be displayed in the store.
Maritz set out to develop and implement an innovative, behaviorally-based incentive program, which evolved into “RUN to Defeat ALS.” Maritz Motivation provided research and design efforts to motivate the store managers and frontline employees to educate the public and drive donations. With “RUN to Defeat ALS,” managers are involved and motivated to get behind the program, and employees are given clear, easy- to-remember direction based on the “RUN” behavioral acronym:
REQUEST - $1 contributions from every customer
UNDERSTAND – ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease
NOW! – is your opportunity. Ask now!
2008 was the first year that Maritz worked with ALS Association, and donations doubled compared to the year before in beta testing conducted in Bob Evans and Honey Baked Ham stores,.
“I cannot thank you enough for the endless hours and efforts Maritz has poured into the pin-up program. Chapter Executives and Board Members have already approached me with potential retail partners for the program. I whole-heartedly believe this program will have a considerable impact on our mission.”
- L. Ashton Chase, senior director – national signature events, The ALS Association

Central Institute for the Deaf (CID)
Maritz works with the Central Institute for the Deaf (CID) to support its philanthropic goal of helping people in the St. Louis community reach their potential.
CID helps hearing-impaired children, from birth to age 12, learn to listen, talk and achieve literacy without the use of sign language. The school provides services that include speech and language therapy, pediatric audiology, mainstream assistance, continuing education for teachers and professional consultation for schools. CID’s educational tools are used to help deaf children in all 50 states, all provinces of Canada, six provinces of Australia and 33 other countries around the world.
By partnering with CID, Maritz has been able to act on its commitment to helping people create solid foundations on which to build bright futures. This partnership strengthens CID’s capacity to serve children with hearing impairments and their families, maximizing their opportunity to succeed academically, socially and professionally.
In August 2006, Maritz gave CID a grant to support the schools technology upgrade. The Maritz grant helped provide 48 new workstations for CID staff, eight new laptops for the student computer lab, and classrooms SmartBoards used by CID’s primary school students.
Along with providing the grant, more than a dozen Maritz volunteers provided two days of on-site technical support for the technology upgrade. Since then, Maritz volunteers continue to take part in a variety of IT-related activities, including training and serving on CID’s technology committee.
“Our teachers, staff and students have been waiting for the new computers for a long time. Thanks to the generous support of Maritz and the bequests we have received this year, we were able to purchase the equipment we need to educate our deaf and hard of hearing students.”
-Robin M. Feder, CID executive director

St. Louis Children’s Hospital
One of the ways Maritz celebrates its partnership with St. Louis Children’s Hospital is during its annual Holiday Lights event. Each year a different Maritz family with close ties to the hospital kicks off the holiday season by switching on more than 100,000 strands of lights that decorate the entire Maritz campus.
Maritz began celebrating the Holiday Lights event in 2003 to commemorate and support the contributions Children’s Hospital makes to families both locally and nationally. Since the partnership began, Maritz has donated an Endowment Fund for literacy, education and a sibling playroom.
Through the partnership with St. Louis Children’s Hospital, the Holiday Lights event is one way to recognize the work Children's does for families across the country.

New Orleans Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau, Inc.
Maritz moved its Global Sales Conference from its corporate headquarters in St. Louis to New Orleans in May 2006, sending a strong message to the global travel and meetings industry that one of the world’s premiere destinations is back and ready for business after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Maritz’ presence provided a prime opportunity to showcase the city as a destination for meetings and incentive trips and generate millions of dollars in economic impact.
